Fellows of the EDSRA
Jack Bushnell – Awarded fellowship in 1990. Jack was instrumental in forming the ASRA in the mid 1980’s, in an effort to bring Alberta in line with other provinces in having a province-wide referees’ association. Jack is sadly no longer with us today.
Cor Rodenburg – Awarded fellowship in 1991. Also played a large role in setting up the ASRA.
David McDonald – Awarded fellowship in 1997. David was president of the ASRA, Edmonton Society three times, beginning in the 1980’s. He was also the first president of the provincial ASRA, and, in over two decades of membership, could always be counted on to contribute when it was needed.
Shaun Hammond – Awarded fellowship in 2007. Shaun’s contributions to the soccer refereeing community are immeasurable. As a referee, instructor, assessor, mentor, and member of various soccer bodies and committees, Shaun has led the way in Edmonton and the Province for most of the many years that he has
been involved. There are few, if any, officials in Edmonton who have not gained something from Shaun’s experience, dedication and knowledge – even those who have never met him.
Stuart Murray – Awarded fellowship in 2015. Serving as president for 13 years, Stu moved the association into the 21st century. After being instrumental in the revival of the Edmonton & District Soccer Referees Assocation, when the provincial association faded, Stu not only came up with the innovative ideas to attract new members and provide great value – he also put in years of hard work to make the ideas reality. Our website, merchandise, door prizes, annual membership bonus, assigning income, special guests at meetings and AGM’s – are all evidence of Stu’s Leadership, Dedication and Committment to EDSRA.
The Jaime Jaramillo Award - The Spirit of 'CHIT'
On April 28th, 2010, EDSRA lost a unique member to cancer. Jaime Jaramillo battled hard, but could not overcome a relatively short fight with leukemia.
In 2011, in honor of Jaime, EDSRA introduced the Jaime Jaramillo Award, also known as the Spirit of ‘CHIT’. Anyone who knew Jaime will need no explanation for the award’s nickname.
Presented at each year’s Annual General Meeting, the award goes to an official who embodies the same spirit and outlook on the game as our dear friend Jaime did.
- Is often smiling when on the field.
- Has a friendly attitude towards players, coaches, fans.
- Does not referee to ‘promote’ self.
- Involved in all levels.
- But mostly, has FUN out there.
If you wish to nominate a referee for the Jaime Jaramillo Award, please contact any EDSRA board member.
